Irish Folk duo Colleen’s Fancy, based in Holmpton, hit on a novel way to raise cash for BBC Radio Humberside’s Making Waves appeal, which aims to provide funds for the eight rescue boats in their listening area.
The duo decided that they would play requests at the various gigs they perform in return for a donation, and since last October the marvellous sum of £2,566.12 had been raised.
Last Sunday a cheque was handed over to Christine Barker, CSV Action Producer at BBC Radio Humberside during their regular gig at the Burlington Tavern in Alfred Gelder Street in Hull. With a further £157.88 raised on the night the grand total from Colleens Fancy is an amazing £2724.00.
Singer Kevin Young has been delighted at the generosity of fans. “They really do dig deep to help this worthy cause,” said Kevin, “whilst they pay we keep singing.” John Pencheon commented on his surprise at just how much the duo had raised “ we were amazed at the amount of money people have given us, we’ve raised over £100 in quite small pubs across the area”.
